Adapted from an earlier psychedelic piece titled Scapes for 2 keyboards, electronics and video, A Musical Box from a Distant Land draws on the purely acoustic experience of creating a magical soundscape. Vast silences throughout the piece draws attention to the interaction of sound and their musical colours: the natural decay of the piano, the melding textures and the irregular entrances. Interspersed musical ideas mimic the winding down of the music box, as the piece moves from nostalgic, to familiar yet distant.
